Breast cancer is one of the severe disease that women are trying to avoid. Lot of women who are conscious about how this disease can be will be taking regular screening in detecting this disease as early as possible. Different thing with men, they don’t give any attention about their breast, of course because they visibly don’t have them. In fact, the statement that men don’t have breast is wrong. Truthfully, men do have breast tissue, the only thing to differentiate is they don’t produce milk like all women do. Since men don’t think about this much, they rarely do medical checkups about their breast area. The fact is non-functional breast tissues can change to be the danger ones if mutation happens.
Breast cancer in men only has a little difference with women’s. The breast tissue is located behind the nipple, just like women’s. And the cancer itself is formed because of cell mutation that lead to a dangerous cell activity. This mutated cell will spread out to all cell body by forming their blood vascular to keep them alive, and that’s when the last stage occurred. Why breast tissue in women can produce milk while men cannot? Well, there is an explanation to answer this. In puberty period, all girls will go through some process of maturity. The ovaries will produce a female hormone called estrogen that has the important role in breast maturity. This hormone will prepare the breast tissue to expand and form milk glands. While boys in their puberty develop male hormone called testosterone, produced by testes. This hormone has the opposite effect from estrogen, it doesn’t expand the breast tissue to become milk glands, but it will stifle the tissue and milk glands aren’t formed. But, this tissue gives a room for fat to gather around the tissue.
Some studies about breast cancer are about the disease happens in female, their cases are much more to be found. While breast cancer in male is a rare case, only happens as 1% of the total population. The disease usually attacks men in their 55 to 70, or younger, not enough evidence to prove them. What’s the cause of male breast cancer? Since it rarely happens in a male population, and there are not enough studies and researches further about this disease, the main cause of this disease is still unknown. Some studies explain that it might be genetic or hereditary. Family medical history can be tracked down to detect earlier cancer detection. It was said that there is this component that carries cancer gene. It can be inherited to their children. That means the possibility of getting cancer is high. Other than that, another reason could be radiation exposure. Radiation has a simple mechanism of mutation which cause normal cell become mutated and lose control. Once cells are mutated, the chance of spreading to another organ is high as well.
Consuming antioxidant can help reducing the risk of radiation exposure. Antioxidants can be found in fruit such as apples. Even though, one of cancer treatment is radiotherapy, another medication is given regarding the decreased of lymphocytes. Lymphocytes are cells that coordinate immune system. Once lymphocytes level decreases, immune system comes down as well. Radiotherapy kills not only the malignancy cells, but also the normal cell. As a conclusion, once breast cancer symptoms show up, contact your physician.
